Austin Engineering Group history

The company was originally founded in 1982 by Ron and Gloria Austin and head office has been at its current location at the Carole Park Industrial Estate, 20kms west of Brisbane’s CBD, since 1991. After a period of growth and expansion Austin was acquired by West Australian Metals Ltd in 2003. The company floated on the AustralianSecurities Exchange in 2004.

2004 acquired Perth-based John’s Engineering & Cranes Pty Ltd (JEC), one of Australia’s longest established manufacturers of Mining and Earthmoving attachments and off highway truck bodies.

2006 acquired Kaldura Industries, a heavy engineering business located at Mackay in Central Queensland that specialises in mining equipment repairs and provides the company with a significant capacity to provide fabrication and equipment repair services to the resources industry around the Bowen Basin.

2007 acquired two other businesses, another in Central Queensland – Austbore Pty Ltd located in Mackay and Western Technology Services based in Casper, Wyoming USA. Austbore’s core capabilities include general machining services, the overhaul of track frames and other mining equipment and mobile line-boring services. Western Technology Services, or Westech, is one of the world’s largest non-OEM designer and manufacturer of off highway dump truck bodies.

2009 acquired the steel dump truck body business from Conymet Ltda based in the industrial precinct of La Negra in Antofagasta, Chile’s largest mining region. Conymet has a 25-year history in truck body design, manufacturing large mining equipment and providing services to the large Chilean mining Industry.

2010 acquired WA based Pilbara Hire Group Pty Ltd. This specialist site based company offers fixed and mobile repair and maintenance services and complements Austin’s Westech and JEC products. In the same year acquired the business and assets of COR Cooling Group and Hunter Valley-based Phillips Engineering Pty Ltd. This specialist repair and maintenance facility offers a full range of both site and on-site services. COR Cooling specializes in engineered heat transfer systems with facilities in Perth, Kalgoorlie, Mackay, Hunter Valley and Adelaide.  COR Cooling was subsequently sold in 2016.

2011 acquired the business of V&V at Calama in Chile providing repair and maintenance support to Chilean mines and opened/acquired three new manufacturing factories, Austin Indonesia at Batam Island, Austin Ingenieros Colombia at Barranquilla and Austin Engineering Peru in Lima.

2013 acquired the business of Servigrut, a significant and successful supplier of heavy equipment lifting, transportation and site services to the mining and industrial markets in Chile based in Antofagasta close to Austin’s existing operations.
